The New York Yankees announced on the 6th (Korean time) that they had hired Minaya, former general manager of the New York Mets, as a senior advisor.

Minaya, who discovered Sammy Sosa while scouting for the Texas Rangers, moved to the New York Mets’ assistant general manager in 1997 after serving as an international scouting executive. In 2002, he took over as general manager of the Montreal Expos, the predecessor of the Washington Nationals, becoming the first Hispanic to lead a major league team. From 2004 to 2010, he served as the general manager of the New York Mets and, from 2011, served as the vice president of the San Diego Padres. From 2015 to 2017, he served as an advisory member of the MLB Players Union and last year as a scouting consultant for the Major League (MLB) Secretariat.

The Yankees already have Jim Hendry, former general manager of the Chicago Cubs, serving as an advisor, and on the 4th, they hired Brian Sabin (66), former general manager of the San Francisco Giants, as an advisor.

Sabin started as a scout for the Yankees in 1985 and served as vice president of scouting until 1992. He then moved to San Francisco in 1993 and served as general manager from 1996 to 2014. During his tenure as general manager, in 2010, 2012, and 2014, he led the team to three World Series victories.

With the joining of Minaya, they built the most solid front line among major league clubs.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said, “I feel empowered because I am surrounded by talented people. We need to mobilize all information when making important decisions.”
